We are a non-profit, community-based organization focused on providing housing and care for underserved and underrepresented populations who struggle with mental illness. With the help of our tireless staff, we assist, semi-independent living in a structured and supervised environment.
Stewart’s was opened on September 1, 1971 by the late Mrs. Rose Stewart Cole (pictured above). She rented a house to accommodate two men who had completed requirements at another halfway house, but were not quite ready to be on their own. Mrs. Cole then recognized the need for a facility for those who were not ready for total independent living. With Mrs. Cole’s guidance, our residents have been able to take pride in being productive members of the community. Today, Stewart’s Halfway House Inc has become a cooperative living environment for mentally restored, mentally challenged, and intellectually disabled adults serving all of Southeast Texas.
Corli is the grand daughter of founder, the late Mrs. Rose Stewart Cole. Corli has been around Stewart's her entire life. She started volunteering there as a teenager, and eventually became an active member of the board upon adulthood. Once her grandmother fell ill, she proudly stepped into operations of the house. Corli has a deep love for her residents, and takes pride in serving them daily.
